Thailand Bangkok strategies on global traffic in cannabis production

The crippled economy of Thailand Bangkok, in particular its tourism and agriculture, is about to acquire new rules that encourage private marijuana farming and sales.

Thus, the global traffic in cannabis is entering Thailand. Government officials draft a bill that would recognize medicinal cannabis as a commodity, so it can be shipped to other countries. They are aiming to enter Asian, European and American markets.

A legalized structure for building a better production system

On August 4, the Cabinet amended the Narcopy Act, awaiting the consent of Parliament to allow the cultivation and trade of the crops, both for export and import, by private medical workers-including some conventional medical practitioners and farmers. This move extends the main strategy of Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister, which insists on a legalized framework.

The draft also includes cannabis and thai hemp production. Thai farmers should be granted access to commercial cannabis seeds to eventually grow their inventory of seeds, the members of the Subcommittee working on the report.

When the nation became the first in Southeast Asia in 2018 to allow medical use of the plant, the new proposal would elevate the limitations set. In January, a clinic for medicine and marijuana in the Ministry of Health was also opened which offers its patients free medication. The 147 approved clinics in the country that can currently prescribe this medication are not included.

Options for expanding Thailand Bangkok economic growth

Marut Jirasrattaziri, Director-General of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, said in an interview: “Thailand Bangkok  is already a tourist destination for many visitors, and can be another draw for the country and health tourists.” “The right to ‘plant, cultivate and export marijuana’ will be granted to private medical practitioners with licenses,” he said, adding that Thai farmers will be granted ‘more optional ways to get income.’

“For now, we want to use Thai money, particularly government-to-community cooperation to boost awareness, research, and development,” Marut said. “We want foreigners not to come in and spend and to take advantage of all the advantages.”

For the local economy, agriculture and tourism are important. According to the Thai Rice Exporters Organization, roughly a third of Thais rely on rice alone. Meanwhile, in 2017 domestic investment in the wellness tourism industry was 12 billion dollars higher than the combined sums in Indonesia and Malaysia, the Global Wellness Institute estimates. In the midst of a global coronavirus pandemic, the largest downturn in Asia is expected, Thailand’s economy is likely to contract 8.5 percent by 2020.

Strategizing varieties of cannabis strains

The administration aims to grow various forms of cannabis as well. Only 4 cannabis cultivars are (legally) cultivated in Thailand Bangkok. According to a representative from the neighborhood cannabis business named Play La Ploen, Thailand needs more strains to keep up with the growing marijuana industry.

Traisuree Taisaranakul, the government spokeswoman, said in a statement: “This will encourage more patients to have access to medical marijuana for their illnesses and to raise awareness of medical marijuana in Thailand. Currently, only government authorities or strictly controlled companies are responsible for the production and dispensing of marijuana. The plant continues to be a category 5 drug, which forbids commercial use. Illegal possession can result in a 10-year prison sentence and ‘trafficking’ is a life sentence or death penalty offense.

The PCL hospital in Bumrungrad and Samitivej Pcl, with a focus on foreign patients from China, Myanmar, and the Middle East, received large amounts of their foreign revenues.

More projects in the making

Additionally, there are a lot of seeds in some strains. Some of the medicinal properties in cannabidiol or CBD are recognized to be strong. Others have a high degree of tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, known as the psychologically disturbed psychoactive drug.

The Thailand Bangkok project is working on a system to grow and manufacture 2 CBD-high medical marijuana strains. The Pharmaceutical Agency of the Government has partnered for the project with Play La Ploen.

A Play La Ploen scientist says that they intend to manufacture CBD medicines at Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Buriram, and Surin in more than 20 Northeastern Thailand hospitals.
